On Drag Forces and Jet Quenching in Strongly-Coupled Plasmas
نویسنده
چکیده
We compute the drag force experienced by a heavy quark that moves through plasma in a gauge theory whose dual description involves arbitrary metric and dilaton fields. As a concrete application, we consider the cascading gauge theory at temperatures high above the deconfining scale, where we obtain a drag force with a non-trivial velocity dependence. We compare our results with the jet-quenching parameter for the same theory, and find qualitative agreement between the two approaches. Conversely, we calculate the jetquenching parameter for N = 4 super-Yang-Mills with an R-charge density (or equivalently, a chemical potential), and compare our result with the corresponding drag force. Holography and Unquenched Quark-Gluon Plasmas
We employ the string/gauge theory correspondence to study properties of strongly coupled quark-gluon plasmas in thermal gauge theories with a large number of colors and flavors. In particular, we analyze non-critical string duals of conformal (S)QCD, as well as ten dimensional wrapped fivebrane duals of SQCD–like theories. We study general properties of the dual plasmas, including the drag forc...
متن کاملDrag and jet quenching of heavy quarks in a strongly coupled N = 2 ∗ plasma
The drag of a heavy quark and the jet quenching parameter are studied in the strongly coupled N = 2∗ plasma using the AdS/CFT correspondence. Both increase in units of the spatial string tension as the theory departs from conformal invariance. The description of heavy quark dynamics using a Langevin equation is also considered. It is found that the difference between the velocity dependent fact...

We investigate the robustness with respect to the introduction of nonconformality of five properties of strongly coupled plasmas that have been calculated in K = 4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills (SYM) theory at nonzero temperature, motivated by the goal of understanding phenomena in relativistic heavy ion collisions. (The five properties are the jet quenching parameter, the velocity dependence of sc...

Effect of altitude is discussed in the unsteady separation of multi stage rockets. Axisymmetric, unsteady and turbulent Navier stokes equations are solved numerically. The governing equations are split into a hyperbolic inviscid part and a parabolic diffusion part. The hyperbolic part is solved by an explicit second-order time and space of Godunov-type scheme. Moving mesh and moving boundary al...
